Description
Join YWCA Bethlehem at Moravian College during our Annual Week Without Violence Campaign to learn about the warning signs of relationship violence. The Escalation Workshop is designed to help friends, family and bystanders recognize the signs and symptoms of dating abuse. The workshop was developed by the One Love Foundation (joinonelove.org) which was founded by the mother of Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia student who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend in 2010, just three weeks before she would have graduated.
Our session at Moravian will include viewing a 40 minute video that depicts a typical college dating relationship that soon begins to demonstrate unhealthy behaviors such as jealousy, manipulation and isolation. Please note that the video includes content that may be triggering for some individuals. After the video attendees will join trained facilitators for a smaller breakout session to discuss the movie and consider intervention strategies to support and assist victims of relationship violence.
Moravian College partners include the Title IX Office, Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Violence, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Hounds Against Sexual Assault (HASA) and the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Council.
The workshop will begin in the UBC Room in the Haupert Union Building (The HUB) at 12:00 pm and conclude at 1:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
