Description

Leveraging the New Nonprofit Accounting Standard to Communicate your Purpose & Impact

Presented by:
Cindy Bergvall, CPA
Bee Bergvall & Company

Topic Description

New accounting standards are often seen as burdensome and confusing, frequently creating more work for an organization.  The latest new nonprofit accounting standard addresses hot button topics such as overhead, financial sustainability, and donor stewardship.    By re-framing the new standard, organizations can create an opportunity to communicate your purpose and impact from a financial perspective.

Participants will discuss how their nonprofit will address each issue in their financial statements, as well as consider how to present their financials from a position of strength. In this interactive workshop session, participants will develop a new appreciation for the power of their financial statements.

As a result of attending this session, participants will recognize how to adapt your organization’s financial statements to communicate your purpose and impact at a deeper level.

Specifically attendees of this session will leave with greater knowledge of:

  1. Communicating to donors the stewardship of their investment with you
  2. Explaining how you leverage administrative and fundraising expenses to deliver program services
  3. Demonstrating the sustainability of your organization

While Board Treasurer’s or Finance Committee members are often tasked with explaining the financial statements, all Board Members are faced with issues of stewardship, use of resources, and sustainability.   This topic will be addressed with the perspective of the non-financial Board Member in mind.
